The bare-root rose received is very dry, I really have doubts about its survival... Planted in the ground, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... (or not?).

Description

Rosa 'Emera Grimpant' carries semi-double flowers, 4 to 5cm (2in), in a beautiful fuchsia-pink colour. They are grouped in bouquets of about ten flowers. It can be trained up walls, pergolas, arbours, fences, and old trees.

It has a spreading habit. It can be planted in all types of soil, in sunny or semi-shaded locations. It delivers a long and exceptional flowering period on healthy, glossy, semi-evergreen foliage.

The Decorosiers series of roses has received 8 gold medals and 6 ADR labels. Naturally disease-resistant, they do not require any treatment.

The ADR label is from the German Rose Breeders Association. It is only granted to varieties that have passed the strictest controls in the world. The plants are tested simultaneously at 10 different locations, in various soil and climate conditions for several years. The tests focus on hardiness, perennial character, and flowering without the use of any pesticide.

Planting and care

Work your soil over 30x30cm (12x12in) area, crumble the soil well, and place an amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Prepare a mound of soil at the bottom of the hole. Prepare a bucket of thick mud with water and soil. Dip your plant in the mud to coat the roots and prevent air bubbles (this is called pralinage). Position your plant in the planting hole, spreading out the roots and checking the depth: the graft point should be just above the soil. Fill with soil and gently compact as you go. Prune the branches to 15 to 20cm (6 to 8in) to stimulate growth. Form a basin at the base of the roses and water abundantly with a fine spray to eliminate air pockets and help the soil adhere to the roots. In very cold regions, it may be useful to mulch with leaves or turf up to 20cm (8in) at the base of your plants.

These roses do not require pruning. However, it is possible to prune them in spring by cutting back the branches by half. In summer, regularly remove faded flowers to encourage new blooms to form.

They are naturally resistant to diseases, so do not require fungicidal treatments.

Roses are often stained or unsightly at the end of summer, but this does not affect their development. These spots are not harmful to the rose and are a natural phenomenon.
