Description

Rosa Generosa Chantal Thomass has the charm of old varieties, with its numerous small, double flowers, which are amber yellow to pale pink. Refined, delicious with its intense and aniseed fragrance, the repeat flowering lasts from May to the first frost, as with all Generosa roses. The rather low habit of this bush is similar to old-fashioned roses.  Perfect for all gardens, ideal in borders, as a specimen plant, its modest size allows it to be grown in large pots on the patio.

Rosa Generosa Chantal Thomass is a shrub rose with a somewhat upright and bushy habit. When fully grown, Rosier generosa Chantal Thomass will reach a height of 80 cm (32in). The flowering begins in May and will only stop with the arrival of frost. The plant produces countless buds that bloom in frilly bunches like lingerie. The flowers are very double, of modest size, they are pale yellow amber and turn flesh pink in colour. They release a powerful fragrance of rose and anise. The rose breeder Guillot sums up this very 'haute couture' variety as follows: 'Amber yellow, pale pink, the colours of Chantal Thomass roses strangely reflect the delicate colour of female skin from the collections of the famous fashion designer'. The foliage is healthy, deciduous, bright green, and requires little maintenance. This bush is very hardy.

Rosa Generosa Chantal Thomass stands out with a delicate and fine flowering. Some perennial plants, as well as grasses, are ideal for enhancing its beauty and accompanying it late in the season. Combine it with Geranium macrorrhizum, Geranium Pink Cloud, Geranium grandiflorum or Nepeta Walker's Low. It will work well as a specimen plant as well as in a pot on your patio or balcony. Its flowers make beautiful romantic bouquets, in the company of peonies and lilacs.

Planting and care

Roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day) but sheltered from the scorching midday rays and strong winds. Plant them from October to April. Easy to grow, roses appreciate loose, permeable, and humus-rich soils. They prefer a soil with a neutral pH, but will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm, crumble the soil well, and place a base amendment such as bonemeal at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant, removed from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1 inch) of soil, backfill, and water thoroughly to remove air pockets. During dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root growth. Also, remember to provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering. Prune its branches by one-third each spring.

Roses are often spotted or unsightly at the end of summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These spots are not harmful to the rose, it is a natural phenomenon.
