It's its second year. The rosebush is doing well and even blooms in winter (don't tell me anymore that rosebushes are deciduous ;-)! In fact, it withstands the storms of Finistère quite well.

Description

The Rosa generosa 'Martine Guillot' is one of the largest generosa roses. It blooms abundantly and continuously from May until the first frost. The roses are grouped in clusters. They are large, full, and double flowers. They are white-pink in colour.

The flowers of this rose release an intense fragrance of rose, violet, lilac, and gardenia depending on the atmosphere. The flowering is very recurrent. It is accompanied by a glossy medium green and deciduous foliage. It is a foliage that resists diseases well.

This tall and vigorous bush is also very hardy and can be used as a climbing rose. At maturity, it can reach a height of 2.5m (8ft). Cultivate it in isolation, for example on a column, so that it receives all the attention it deserves. You can also place it in flower beds. Its cut flowers will make beautiful bouquets for your home.

Planting and care

Roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day) but sheltered from the scorching midday rays and strong winds. They appreciate loose, permeable, deep, and fertile soils. They prefer a neutral to slightly acidic soil, but will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose in a pot, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in) by crumbling the soil and placing a basal amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn, position your seedling in the hole by covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, fill in and water generously to remove air pockets. In dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting. Also, remember to provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering. Prune the branches by one third each spring.
