Thanks to the people (for order preparation and shipping), the bare-root rose received is a bit dry but appears healthy to me. Planted near a Punica granatum Nana, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... (or not?).

Description

The Generosa Rose 'Odile Masquelier', a modern rose with the appearance of an old English rose, is dedicated to a great rose collector, Odile Masquelier. It forms a beautiful upright bush that blooms abundantly from May until frost. Its large, very double roses have a rather unusual colour: they are almost white on the periphery and centred on a tightly coloured apricot centre. This charming rose is also fragrant, like all Generosa roses. It is ideal for all gardens in a mass planting, as a standalone specimen or shrub hedge.

Generosa roses are modern (even ultra-modern) with the appearance of old roses. They combine the charm of old roses with the robustness, surprising colours, and long flowering of modern roses. 'Odile Masquelier' is one of the latest creations in the Generosa series.

The Generosa Rose 'Odile Masquelier' is a large upright bush rose. At maturity, it will reach approximately 1.20m (4ft) in height and 90cm (35in) in width. The flowering begins in May and will only stop with the arrival of frost. The plant produces numerous clusters of 4 to 5 flowers, each with no less than 50 petals. The amber-yellow buds open into softly orange globular cups, then flatten when fully open. The flowers are double, with well-ordered and slightly concave petals that curve towards the centre. Their colour ranges from chamois in the centre to soft salmon, fading to white on the periphery. They give off a pleasant fragrance with subtle orange, jasmine, apricot, and lilac notes. The foliage is abundant, healthy, and deciduous, with a matte dark green colour and requires little maintenance. This bush is very hardy.

The 'Odile Masquelier' rose stands out with its exuberant flowering in unusual tones and beautiful stature, making it essential for lovers of romantic and pastel roses. Easy to grow in any good garden soil, it is accessible to beginner gardeners or those who lack time. Some perennial plants and grasses are ideal for showcasing its gentle flowering and accompanying it late in the season. For example, combine it with campanulas, Geranium macrorrhizum, Geranium 'Pink Cloud', Geranium grandiflorum, Panicum, Nepeta 'Walker's Low', or perennial Delphiniums. Pair it with other roses in shades of white (Martine Guillot, Manuel Canovas) or orange (Versigny, Nicole Mioulane). It will look good as a standalone specimen or in a pot on your patio or balcony. Its flowers make beautiful, luxurious bouquets, along with peonies and lilacs.

Planting and care

Rose bushes need sunlight for 4-5 hours every day, but it's best to protect them from the strong sun and wind. They grow best in loose, permeable soil that is rich in humus. The soil should be well-cultivated and rich enough, but they can also grow in any type of soil.

If you're planting them in a pot, loosen the soil to a depth of 10 inches and add a base amendment like blood, fish and bone at the bottom of the planting hole. Position the plant and cover the top of the root ball with 1 inch of soil. Fill in the hole, press down the soil, and water generously to eliminate air pockets. Water regularly during dry weather for a few weeks to help the roots develop. Use special rose fertilisers to promote flowering.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
