Ordered bare-root, I planted it in clay soil a few days later. For its first year, it gave me magnificent bouquets of roses, between pink and salmon. Absolutely stunning!

Description

The Rose Generosa Prix PJ Redouté is a shrub rose.  Its abundant flowering appears from May to the first frost. The pink buds open into large cups. The large flowers are double and round and have a raspberry pink colour.

They have a pleasant fragrance of jasmine, lily of the valley, vanilla, tea rose, and hay depending on the atmosphere. The flowers are repeat flowering. The deciduous foliage of this Redouté rose is dark green and very healthy. At maturity, the bush can reach a height of 80 cm (32in).

It is a very hardy rose. It can be grown both as a specimen plant and in flower beds. You can also put it in a pot.

The variety was created in 2009 in honor of Pierre Joseph Redouté, a Belgian botanical painter, famous for his remarkable engravings of roses.

Planting and care

Roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day), but sheltered from the scorching midday rays and strong wind. Plant them from October to April. Easy to grow, roses appreciate loose, permeable and humus-rich soils. They prefer a neutral pH soil, but will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked and sufficiently rich.

To plant your PJ Redouté rose, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in), crumble the soil well and place a bottom amendment such as bonemeal in the planting hole. Position your plant, removed from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, fill in and water generously to eliminate air pockets.

In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to encourage rooting. Also, remember to provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering. Prune its branches by one third each spring.

Roses are often spotted or unsightly at the end of summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These spots are not harmful to the rose, it is a natural phenomenon.
