Thanks to the individuals (Manon for the order preparation and ? from the shipping department), the 3 rose bushes received are healthy. Planted near the 'Jubilé Célébration' variety, I am now patiently waiting for them to establish themselves in the spring (or not)...

Description

The 'Flirt 2011' rose is part of a series of particularly floriferous and resistant miniature varieties, the Lilliputs, created by the German rose breeder Kordes. This exceptional creation, recently introduced to the market, has been awarded multiple times for its ornamental qualities, its performance in the garden, and its excellent disease resistance. 'Flirt 2011' blooms continuously from late spring to the first frost in charming bouquets of small semi-double flowers in two shades of pink, set against elegant foliage of dark glossy green. With its small size and dense habit, this enchanting rose is perfect in borders, flower beds, or even a pretty pot on the terrace.

The flowers of the Rosa 'Flirt 2011', gathered in terminal clusters, come from the polyantha rose, an old hybrid derived from Rosa multiflora and Rosa chinensis. This excellent German variety was introduced before 2010 by the German rose breeder Kordes. It received the gold medal in Buenos Aires and Belfast in 2013. As a recipient of the German ADR label, this little rose is repeat-flowering, floriferous, capable of adapting to difficult growing conditions, and highly resistant to diseases and pests. It requires very little maintenance apart from a simple pruning in March.

This well-behaved little bush has a bushy and branched habit, very dense and always neat. It will reach approximately 50 cm (20in) in all directions in a few years. The 4 cm (2in) semi-double flowers, gathered in clusters of 5 to 6 units, are abundantly and continuously produced from June to October if the soil remains moist. In this 'Flirt 2011' variety, the cup-shaped flowers comprise multiple fresh pink petals doubled with soft pink to cream pink. They reveal a white centre surrounding a small bouquet of golden stamens when fully open. This variety is resistant to diseases and develops well-furnished foliage divided into small leaflets of relatively dark and glossy green. It is deciduous, which disappears in winter and re-emerges in spring on short, thorny stems.

The 'Flirt 2011' rose adapts to all soils that are not too dry and to all climates, allowing it to be welcomed without reservation in many regions. It works wonders in borders, flower beds, pots on the terrace, or a pretty pot on the balcony. It can be paired with other miniature roses in harmonious colours or planted in groups of 3 specimens arranged in a triangle in the centre of a small flower bed. Plant it en masse along the edge of a patio or a small path. It can be paired with perennial geraniums (Geranium Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, foxgloves, or other perennial salvias. It pairs perfectly with shrub roses with red, mauve, or white flowers in a romantic garden.

Planting and care

Roses prefer a sunny spot (at least 4 to 5 hours of sunshine daily) but away from the scorching midday sun and strong winds. Roses like loose, permeable, humus-rich soil. They prefer slightly acidic soil but will get used to any garden if the soil is well-worked and sufficiently rich.  To plant your rosebush in a pot, cultivate the soil to a depth of 25 cubic cm, crumbling the soil well and placing a soil improver such as blood, fish and bone at the bottom of the planting hole. After removing the plant from its pot, cover the top of the root ball with 3 cm of soil. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to help the plant take root. You should also remember to fertilise your rosebush with special rose fertiliser to stimulate flowering, especially if planted in a pot.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
