Description

The Rose Bordure Camaïeu is the most warmly coloured variety in the lovely 'Bordure' series developed by Delbard. This polyantha rose is remarkable for its multicoloured flowering, where a beautiful palette of orange, yellow and pink tones coexist, and are both soft and warm. Its small double roses bloom in bouquets, almost continuously for months, on a healthy, dark and glossy foliage. Alone or combined with other varieties from the Bordure series, this radiant little rose will fit anywhere: as a border rose, in a flower bed, in a small hedge, or even in a pot on the patio or balcony.

The flowers of the Rose Bordure Camaïeu delcapo, gathered in small terminal clusters of four to six flowers, come from the polyantha rose, an old hybrid derived from Rosa multiflora and R. chinensis. It has a compact, bushy and dense habit, in the form of a dome as wide as it is tall. It will not exceed 50-60 cm (20-24in) in any direction. The flowers in small double cups, form in rosettes, emerging from orange buds. They bloom, successively changing from orange to yellow and light pink. The centres of the flowers are filled with bright yellow stamens. They open in very large numbers, from May to September, almost continuously if the soil remains moist. This variety develops foliage divided into small, shiny, dark green leaflets, which are very healthy and carried by thorny stems. Deciduous, this foliage turns yellow and falls in late autumn.

Obtained by Delbard (France) in 2001.

Rose Bordure Camaïeu prefers fertile and moist soils and a sunny position. Its low and compact habit, with a neat appearance, works well in a rock garden or on a slope, where it will cover the ground. It can also be planted in groups of three plants, arranged in a triangle. Plant it en masse along a path or to highlight shrub borders. They will integrate perfectly in light or opulent perennial beds and can be combined with other dwarf roses such as 'White Border', 'Pearl Border', or 'Pink Border', according to the taste of each gardener. For example, it can be associated with perennial geraniums (Geranium Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion, Rozanne), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, snapdragons, foxgloves or other carnations. It is naturally perfect for decorating the terrace or balcony, planted in a beautiful pottery, a large basin or a planter.

Planting and care

Bordure Camaïeu dwarf roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day) but sheltered from the scorching midday rays and strong winds. Plant them from October to April. Easy to grow, roses appreciate loose, permeable, and humus-rich soils. They prefer a soil with a neutral pH, but will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in), crumble the soil well, and place a base amendment such as bonemeal at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant, removed from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1 inch) of soil, backfill, and water thoroughly to remove air pockets. During dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root growth. Also, remember to provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering.
