Thanks to Shauna for the order preparation and Laëticia from the shipping department, the rose bush I received appears to be healthy. I have planted it near the 'Mamy Blue' and 'Dioressence' varieties, and now I am patiently waiting for it to start growing again in spring (or not)... Note: there is no variety label (even though it is essential for identifying the rose bush in all seasons).

Description

The 'Amber Sun' rose lives up to its name, with small roses grouped together in beautiful bouquets that display amber colours in bud and become sunny yellow when fully bloomed. The flowers stand out perfectly against a beautiful, dark and slightly shiny foliage. Its subtle fragrance remains pleasant.

This small-sized rose is highly resistant to common rose diseases and can be used as a ground cover or border plant. Plant them at the base of bushes, the long-lasting flowering period from June until the first frost will dress up any bare spots.

'Amber Sun' is a variety bred by Kordes, a well-reputed German family of rose breeders. The varieties from this house are often awarded at national and international levels. The 'Amber Sun' rose was awarded the gold medal and the certificate of merit at the National Rose Trial Garden of Australia in 2010.

Planting and care

The 'Amber Sun' Rose is tolerant of exposure, although it prefers sunny locations, it performs well in semi-shade. While it does not appreciate excessive limestone, it tolerates it. It will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose, work the soil by crumbling it and add an amendment, such as dried blood or dehydrated horn, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water generously after planting to eliminate air pockets. Regularly water for a few weeks to facilitate root growth. Pruning ground cover roses is fairly quick. Trim your roses to 30 cm (12in) from the ground before the buds appear but after the risk of frost (February-April). Also, occasionally remove some of the old branches for good renewal. As the flowers bloom, remove faded flowers to stimulate the growth of other buds.
