This rose bush is easy to grow, floriferous and extremely resistant to diseases. Its semi-double roses are a beautiful shiny cherry red, grouped in clusters on a ground cover bush with very decorative, forest green foliage. It flowers all summer. This very healthy variety, which has obtained the A.D.R label, is an excellent successor to the famous Lili Marleen floribunda rose, to which it bears a resemblance.

Description

Rosa 'Black Forest Rose' Floribunda rose is an almost perfect rose bush. This variety from the 'Sans contrainte®' series is easy to grow and floriferous and extremely disease-resistant, as confirmed by the highly demanding A.D.R label it has been awarded. Combining endless cherry red flowers with a particularly compact habit, this carefree bush forms a truly radiant ground cover, lacking only fragrance. Its semi-double roses, grouped in generous clusters, bloom continuously throughout summer. Ideal for creating borders and sunny flower beds, for small spaces or a terrace.

Black Forest Rose floribunda rose was bred in 2000 by German rose breeder Kordes. It has regular growth and a compact, bushy habit, which will not exceed 70 cm (28in) high and 50 cm (20in) wide. This variety, belonging to the floribunda rose family, develops thorny stems, covered with reddish foliage that turns dark green in summer and is immune to rose diseases. It flowers abundantly from June to September, as long as the weather remains mild. Its 6-7 cm (2-3in) wide, semi-double flowers are composed of 25 petals and gathered in clusters of 5 to 7. The tightly closed buds open into rounded flowers, with petals curved in shells, gradually blooming into more flat and open cups. The petals are bright red, sometimes discreetly streaked with white.

Floribunda roses can be used to create beautiful small hedges, planted along the edge of a terrace or in beds with small shrubs. Combine them with abelias, Mexican orange blossoms, or bluebeard, for example. They are good companions for paniculate phlox, annual plants, and tall baby's breath. The modest size and resistance of 'Black Forest Rose' make it an interesting variety for all gardens, even small ones, and for large pots. It requires very little maintenance, with minimum annual pruning. Its uses are varied, plant it along a pathway, in a large rose bed, mixed with white varieties (Marie Pavie, Swany), or mauve ones (Blue Boy, Rhapsody in Blue, Novalis), or combined with easy-care perennials such as perennial geraniums, small-flowered carnations, or asters.

Planting and care

Roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day) but sheltered from the scorching midday rays and strong winds. Roses like loose, permeable soil rich in humus. They prefer slightly acidic soil but will thrive in any garden as long as the soil is well-worked and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose, work and break up the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in) and place a base fertiliser such as bonemeal in the hole. Remove your rose from its pot and position, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, fill in and water generously to eliminate air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to aid rooting. Provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that stimulates flowering.

Roses are often stained or unsightly at the end of summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These stains are not harmful to the rose and are a natural phenomenon.
