The rose bush I received looked beautiful but unfortunately GLS, the carrier, threw the package over the gate, causing the branches to break.

More information

ADR Value-for-money
This Flower Carpet rose bush has a rather upright habit for ground cover, which makes it more suitable for the background of flowerbeds. It stands out with exceptionally abundant semi-double, soft yellow flowers with orange stamens and dark green, disease-free and shiny foliage. It blooms continuously from May until the first frost. This almost maintenance-free bush thrives in any type of soil, making it excellent for gardens but also beautiful flower pots on terraces.

Description

The Flower Carpet Gold Rose, classified in the category of ground cover roses, is an excellent rose, naturally disease-resistant as certified by the highly selective German ADR label. It is strong, upright and floriferous and provides an exceptional, almost permanent, decoration which requires very little maintenance. It flowers uninterrupted from May until the first frost with semi-double flowers which are a cheerful, mellow yellow, enhanced by orange stamens. It is popular with urban landscapers, easy, generous and cheerful, well suited for informal mass plantings in gardens with single perennials or shrubs with colourful foliage.

Rosa Flower Carpet Gold, also known as 'Suneva' rose (noalesa), 'Loredo' or 'Jacobs Kronung' was obtained in 1994 by the German rose breeder Reinhard Noack and is classified as a modern, shrub and ground cover rose. Its clustered flowers come from the polyantha rose, an old hybrid derived from Rosa multiflora and Rosa chinensis. The plant forms a very dense bush about 70 to 80 cm (28 to 32in) high and 60 cm (24in) wide, depending on the growing conditions. It is floriferous with an abundance of semi-double flowers with 16 to 25 petals, 3-5 cm (1-2in) in diameter, in a lovely butter yellow, with a soft orange stamen centre. They have a light fragrance and are gathered in small clusters. Its semi-evergreen foliage is very healthy and composed of small, shiny dark green leaves that cover thorny stems. This variety tolerates heat well and adapts to any well-prepared soil.

The Suneva rose can be used in mass plantings, flower beds, large spaces, slopes, or low hedges. It adapts to all soils that are not too wet and all climates, allowing it to be grown almost anywhere. It has well-branched vegetation that works well in low shrub borders or behind a Decorosier variety that is lower, such as Vesuvia, Isalia or Emera. When planted en masse, it can edge pathways and highlight flower beds. For example, it can be paired with perennial geraniums (Geranium Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, lavenders, snapdragons, foxgloves, or other Stachys. If left to grow freely, it will form a well-groomed but very natural bush, perfect for bringing a ray of sunshine to the terrace.

Planting and care

Roses prefer a sunny location (at least 4 to 5 hours of sun per day) but sheltered from strong winds. However, Flower Carpet Gold tolerates heat very well and adapts to most soils. All roses like loose, permeable soils rich in humus. They prefer slightly acidic soil but will adapt to any garden as long as the ground is well-worked and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm (10in), break up the soil well and place a base fertiliser such as bonemeal in the planting hole. Remove your plant from its pot and position, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, fill in and water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to aid root growth. Provide your rose with special rose fertiliser to stimulate flowering.

Pruning: it is not essential, but you can clean up old wood and shorten some branches to 2/3 of their growth at the end of winter.

Roses are often stained or unsightly at the end of summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These spots are not harmful to the rose; it is a natural phenomenon.
