Description

The 'Anne de Kiev' Rose will seduce lovers of classic roses, with its perfect shape, a very stable white colour, and an intense fragrance with lemony notes. They bloom in small bouquets that follow one another from June until the first frost on a vigorous bush dressed in dense foliage, which is not very susceptible to diseases. Graceful and feminine, this variety pays a beautiful tribute to a Ukrainian princess from the 11th century, who was the wife of Henry I, King of the Franks. Its roses are simply sublime in bouquets.

The 'Anne de Kiev' Rose (Oracarli) was introduced to the market in 2015 by the Orard rose gardens, a family-owned company located in Feyzin, not far from Lyon. It is classified as both a modern large-flowered rose, also known as a hybrid tea rose, and a floribunda rose, with clustered flowers. It is a perpetual bloomer, flowering from June to October in successive waves. The plant forms a small bushy shrub with a slightly upright habit, vigorous and fast-growing. It will reach a height of about 90 cm (35in) with a spread of 50-60 cm (20-24in). The flowers are globular and campanulate, composed of 70 petals in a bright white colour. Their fragrance is pronounced, especially in warm weather, dominated by lemony notes. The foliage, a fairly dark green, is resistant to diseases and perfectly highlights the colour of the roses. A very hardy variety.

This 'Anne de Kiev' Rose, with its fragrance, the elegance of its flowers and its beautiful floribundity, will find its place in the garden in a large rose bed or as a standalone plant in a well-maintained garden. It adapts to all soils that are not too dry and all climates, tolerating both cold and heat, which allows it to be welcomed without reservation from the north to the south of our region. It pairs perfectly with roses in shades of pink, purple, mauve, red, or even yellow, as well as with lovely and easy-to-grow plants like perennial geraniums (Geranium 'Blue Cloud', 'Anne Folkard', 'Nimbus', 'Orion'), campanulate flowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, cornflowers, foxgloves, phlox etc. Its flowers can be used to create elegant bouquets that will delicately perfume the house.

Planting and care

To plant your 'Anne de Kiev' rose, prepare the soil to a depth of 40 cm (16in) by crumbling it well and adding a base amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your young plant, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, then fill in the hole and water generously to eliminate air pockets. In dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root growth. Also, remember to provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that promotes flowering.
