Hello, 1 of the 2 rose bushes did not regrow, and the one that did regrow is not up to standard. Very disappointed. I have already sent a message 3 months ago to express my dissatisfaction, but have not received any response to date, 24th September 2019. Kind regards,

Aline L., 24/09/2019

Description

The 'Criterion' Rosebush is one of those varieties created in the 60s, with timeless elegance. This vigorous bush with an upright habit produces large, double flowers of perfect shape and turbinate, displaying an Indian pink, warm, vibrant, and perfectly uniform. They are enhanced by beautiful dark foliage. Their powerful fragrance is appreciated in bouquets but also in the garden, in large rose beds. A safe value to offer or to enjoy for pleasure!

While modern roses are often criticised for their stiffness and weak disease resistance, the 'Criterion' variety stands out for its vigour, beautiful foliage, and powerful fragrance of its large roses. This rose, belonging to the hybrid tea roses, forms a small bushy shrub with a slightly upright habit and rapid growth. It will reach a height of about 90 cm (35in) to 1 m (3ft) with a spread of 80 cm (32in). From May June to September, beautiful modern roses bloom on dark green and shiny foliage, 12 to 15 cm (5 to 6in) wide, solitary and borne on long sturdy stems. They are perfectly uniform, a warm pink-red, reflecting their heavy and heady fragrance.

With its elegant appearance and floribundity, this modern rose' Criterion' will find its place in a large rose bed or as a standalone plant in a well-maintained garden. It adapts to all soils that are not too dry and all climates, allowing it to be planted almost anywhere, even at medium altitudes. It pairs perfectly with pretty and easy-to-grow perennials such as perennial geraniums, 'Blue Cloud', 'Ann Folkard', or 'Nimbus', bellflowers lactiflora or rapunculoides, catmints, snapdragons, and foxgloves. Its flowers can be used to create very chic bouquets that delicately perfume the house.

Obtained by De Ruiter - 1966.

Planting and care

Planting your rose requires some preparation. Begin by working the soil to a depth of 25 cubic cm and adding a base amendment like blood, fish, and bone to the bottom of the planting hole. Remove the plant from its pot and position it by covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Refill the hole and water generously to eliminate any air pockets. It's essential to water the rose regularly for a few weeks during dry weather to help the roots grow. Use a special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering. Choose a sunny location or partial shade to plant your rose in hot regions.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
