Disappointed. The rose bush was in a sorry state, with a few frail, yellowed and spotted leaves. I don't know if it will recover... Response from Promesse de Fleurs: I apologize for this inconvenience, it is normal at this time of year with the climate variations and we do not use any phytosanitary treatments. This will not compromise the successful growth of the plant. Keep us updated. Kind regards. Texte traduit révisé : Disappointed. Description

The 'Gérard Depardieu' Rose is a creation by Paul Croix that matches the famous actor and his generous, often showy and provocative temperament. Its opulent, very double flowers possess an irresistible charm, combining a tender pink color full of freshness with an intense and sumptuous fragrance. The bush, with its beautiful vigor and disease resistance, blooms from early summer to the gates of winter. Its roses, magnificent in flower beds, are also very long-lasting in a vase.

The 'Gérard Depardieu' Rose® belongs to the Tea hybrids, recognizable by the beautiful turbinate shape of their flowers. With vigorous growth, it quickly forms an erect and branched bush, 1m (3ft) in height and 70-80cm (28-32in) wide. Its flowers are double, globular, 10 to 12cm (4 to 5in) wide. The 30 to 40 petals that compose them are tightly packed and slightly turned outward. Their colour is a pure and soft pink. The robust branches, adorned with prickles, bear a well-furnished foliage, very healthy, reddish when young, becoming dark green. Its disease resistance is excellent. The flowers are solitary, carried by very sturdy long stems. The plant is devoid of leaves in winter.

This 'Gérard Depardieu' rose is an excellent variety for flower beds, and its flowers allow for the creation of very beautiful and fragrant bouquets, with peonies or lilacs, for example. Plant it in groups of 3 specimens, or in combination with white roses, for example. Some perennial plants with light flowerings (Autumn Asters, foxgloves, penstemons), as well as grasses, are ideal for enhancing its beauty and accompanying it late in the season. For example, pair it with 'Rozanne' geraniums or 'Pink Penny', with Nepeta 'Walker's Low' and with blue or white bellflowers. It will look good as a solitary plant as well as in a large pot on your terrace or balcony. Its flowers make very sumptuous bouquets, in the company of peonies and white lilacs.

Planting and care

To plant your 'Gérard Depardieu' rose bush, prepare your soil to a depth of 40cm (16in) by loosening the earth and adding a bottom amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn. Position your young plant, covering the graft point with 3cm (1in) of soil, then fill in the hole and water generously to eliminate air pockets. During dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root growth. Also, remember to provide your rose bush with special rose fertilizer that stimulates flowering in plants.
