Description

The Goldfinger® Rose is covered with large, remarkably fragrant, very double, golden yellow roses that have a very natural appearance due to their petals resembling crumpled silk. The bush, which is perpetual, blooms from late spring until the first frost. It is of medium size and offers very good disease resistance. Suitable for borders and bouquets.

The Goldfinger® Rose ('Weksudaspane') is a small bush with an upright habit and moderately vigorous growth. It will eventually reach a height of about 75cm (30in), with a spread of 50-60cm (20-24in). From May-June until late in the season, clusters of large flowers are formed on long thorny stems. They are composed of multiple petals tightly packed in a flat cup shape. The centre of the flower, golden yellow in colour, is surrounded by paler petals, highlighting the tightly curled heart that fades into a creamy yellow. The foliage is also well-groomed, as this Goldfinger variety is more disease-resistant than most other yellow varieties. The powerful fragrance, with lemony notes, is a real plus! It is more noticeable in warm and calm weather. This deciduous, hardy bush loses its leaves in autumn. It will thrive when planted in a rich, deep soil that remains slightly moist in summer to support flower production.

This modern Goldfinger rose will find its place in the garden in a large rose border, at the front of a shrub border, or planted in groups of 3 subjects as a focal point in a small well-groomed garden. Its golden flowering illuminates any setting. It pairs well with white, orange, and red tones. To create beautiful contrasts, combine yellow with blue, the complementary colour of yellow par excellence. Consider planting this rose near easy-to-grow plants such as perennial geraniums (Geranium 'Blue Cloud', 'Anne Folkard', 'Nimbus', 'Orion'), campanulas (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, perennial salvias, Perovskia, Caryopteris... Dwarf buddleias also make lovely companions for bush roses. Its flowers can be used to create fragrant bouquets for the home.

Planting and care

To plant your Goldfinger rose, prepare your soil to a depth of 25cm (10in) by loosening the earth and adding a bottom amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn. Position your young plant, removed from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3cm (1in) of soil. Fill in the hole and water thoroughly to remove any air pockets. In dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to aid in root establishment. Also, remember to provide your rose with special rose fertilizer that promotes flowering. Choose a sunny location, or partial shade in very hot regions.
