The rose bush has recovered well. It wasn't very pretty upon arrival, but now it's growing nicely. Happy!

Description

'La Rose de Molinard' is a modern tea hybrid whose name evokes that of a famous perfumer from Grasse. It is, therefore, not surprising that this rose releases a complex and intoxicating fragrance of old-fashioned rose, with hints of pear and apple, as well as exotic fruits and citrus. Intensely nostalgic, the deep and full cup-shaped flowers of true pink evoke roses of yesteryear. Very long-lasting in a vase, they make beautiful scented bouquets throughout the summer season. In the garden, this bush surprises with its floribundity, vigour, and stature, which allow it to be trained as a small climber. The last advantage of this rose full of qualities is its excellent natural resistance to diseases, rewarded with the prestigious German ADR* label.

'La Rose de Molinard' 'Delgraros' has an impressive list of achievements many envy: no less than 14 medals. This is a modern bush rose with large clustered flowers introduced in 2008 by Delbard, belonging to the series of roses 'Souvenirs d'Amours Parfumés'. A very vigorous bush with a bushy and flexible yet erect habit, it reaches approximately 1.80m (6ft) in height and 1m (3ft) in width at maturity under good conditions, with rapid growth. When trained as a climber, it can reach a height of 2.50m (8ft). It produces strong, thorny branches with dense foliage divided into large, toothed leaflets, glossy dark green and red-purple at bud break. Throughout the summer and until October, if faded flowers are removed, the plant continuously produces medium-sized flowers, 9-10cm (4in) in diameter, with a globular shape reminiscent of certain old-fashioned roses. Very double, they are composed of 40 to 60 imbricated petals in shells towards the centre of the flower. They open in tight quarters. Their colour is a medium, pure pink, without any trace of orange or blue. The flowers are grouped in bouquets of 5 to 7 at the end of long shoots from the current year or emerging from 2-year-old stems. The foliage of this variety is remarkably healthy.

* The ADR label is awarded to vigorous and floriferous roses resistant to diseases, cold, and pests. These roses have been evaluated for 3 years in 11 rose gardens in Germany, spread across different climatic zones where no treatments are performed. This label is a guarantee of high quality and hardiness.

As explained by the rose breeder Delbard, the 'Souvenirs d'Amours' roses are "Voluptuous, romantic, and fragrant; these roses have the unique charm of old-fashioned roses, childhood memories, and moments of rediscovered happiness!"

'La Rose de Molinard' is a great rose, well-bred, a variety that only requires fertile soil that remains moist to showcase its potential fully. A solid, romantic, and fragrant bush, ideal for planting in a large flowering hedge, in a flower bed, or in a group of 3 specimens at the center of a flower bed. It blends well with perennials and light annuals such as paniculate gypsophila, campanulas, paniculate phlox, or tall foxgloves. Its vigorous growth also allows it to grow without support in a flowering hedge, in the company of a vigorous clematis like 'jackmanii Alba' or 'Prince Charles', or to be planted behind slightly too strict flower beds. It can be placed near the house to also enjoy its superb fragrance, alone or combined with the vibrant rose Le grand Huit or the white 'Fée des neiges'. Finally, its roses are stunning in bouquets, combined with lilies in summer or asters in autumn.

Planting and care

Choose a sunny or lightly shaded spot with well-worked soil that is not too heavy and has enough nutrients. Avoid planting in poor and excessively dry soils. Prepare the soil by crumbling it and adding an amendment, such as blood, fish and bone, at the bottom of the planting hole. After planting, water abundantly to remove air pockets and continue to water regularly for a few weeks to help the roots establish.

Pruning modern repeat flowering roses is important for flowering and should be done in three stages:

1. Regular maintenance pruning: During the season, regularly shorten the flowering branches and remove faded flowers along with their stem, leaving 2 or 3 leaves to encourage repeat flowering.

2. Preparatory autumn pruning: Lightly prune in preparation for the 'main' spring pruning. Note: This is not recommended in regions with cold winters as this could weaken the bush.

3. Spring pruning: In February-March, when the buds have become shoots 2 to 3 cm (1in) long, prune the young, strong branches to one-quarter of their length.

When pruning, always aim to remove dead wood, diseased branches, and weak shoots while opening up the centre of the bush. Retain the most vigorous branches, generally 3 to 6 well-positioned, to maintain an attractive habit. Always prune at a slant ½ cm or 1 cm (0in) above an outward-facing bud.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
