Thanks to the individuals (for order preparation and shipping), the bare-root rose I received appears to be healthy. Now that it's been planted, I am patiently waiting for it to take root... or not?

Description

The 'Mistinguett' Rose (Tan01360) is a modern bush from the 'Les Années Folles' series developed by the German rose breeder Tantau, inspired by the spirit of carefree and daring that characterised the interwar period. A beautiful tribute to the eponymous queen of the music hall who introduced Paris to the world, this variety is characterised by its retro style, large bright cherry red flowers, and delicate fragrance. In addition to its ornamental qualities, it is a robust bush resistant to rose diseases. Enjoy this characterful rose in your bouquets, in a small rose-dedicated bed, or near the patio.

The 'Mistinguett' Rose is a modern hybrid tea rose producing large, solitary flowers with long, sturdy stems adorned with thorns. The plant forms an upright bush with a regular habit, vigorous and fast growth. It will reach a height of approximately 90 cm (35in) with a width of 70 cm (28in). From May-June until late in the season, on foliage divided into large, dark green, dentate leaflets, roses with a diameter of 7 to 10 cm (3 to 4in) open, shaped like flat cups, composed of 80 to 100 petals. They open in the manner of old-fashioned roses in quarters. Their colour is a very vibrant cherry red, and their fruity fragrance is of light intensity. The disease resistance of this rose is good under satisfactory growing conditions. This deciduous, very hardy bush loses its leaves in autumn. It will thrive in rich, deep soil that stays cool in summer.

This modern 'Mistinguett' rose is planted in groups of 3 to 5 plants at the front of a shrub bed or as a standalone in a well-maintained small garden. Consider pairing it with small blue, deep pink, or white flowers to enhance it without overshadowing it. Perennial geraniums, catmints, bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), perennial salvias, and foxgloves are good companions for roses. Its long-lasting flowers make elegant and colourful bouquets.

Planting and care

Planting your 'Mistinguett' rose requires some preparation. Begin by working the soil to a depth of 40 cubic cm and adding a base amendment like blood, fish, and bone to the bottom of the planting hole. Remove the plant from its pot and position it by covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Refill the hole and water generously to eliminate any air pockets. It's essential to water the rose regularly for a few weeks during dry weather to help the roots grow. Use a special rose fertiliser that stimulates plant flowering. Choose a sunny location or partial shade in very hot regions to plant your rose.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
