The 'Nadia Zerouali' shrub rose holds a pleasant surprise for curious gardeners: its petals reveal a delightful citrus scent that remains intact in the mouth. On a well-branched bush, with gracefully bending stems under the weight of the flowers, clusters of double roses bloom in shades of yellow to cream. Naturally resistant to diseases, it blooms in successive waves from June to October. Excellent in flowerbeds with perennials, suitable for pot cultivation, it also offers charming flowers for bouquets.
This floribunda-type shrub rose is a recent creation from the Pheno Geno Roses company, which specialises in creating flavourful roses. Because it is often overlooked, the rose is also the queen of edible flowers. Each variety has been carefully selected and tested to offer the best, both in terms of flavour and texture. Floriferous and suitable for organic cultivation, these roses provide an abundance of delicious and delicate flowers to use and enjoy in the garden, on the balcony, and in the kitchen.
'Nadia Zerouali' will form a bushy and flexible bush with a height of 1m (3ft) and a width of 70cm (28in) on average. Its growth is rapid, and its graceful stems are covered with abundant dark green foliage resistant to diseases under appropriate growing conditions. The deciduous foliage falls in autumn. On this repeat-flowering bush, the flowers are gathered in clusters. They are medium-sized (7cm (3in)), double, slightly loose, and irregular in shape. Each is a gradient of bright yellow, pale yellow, and cream from the centre to the periphery of the corolla. In this rose, the flowering takes the form of corymbs, bouquets with several flowers. Their citrus fragrance is present and will be more noticeable in calm and warm weather.
The 'Nadia Zerouali' rose fits well in a small flowerbed alongside blue, white, or even red flowers. Combine it with annual delphiniums, perennial flax, lavender, or white foxgloves. It will also bring a joyful touch to perennial flowerbeds and large borders. Roses go perfectly with catmints, bellflowers, paniculate gypsophila, and herbaceous or climbing clematis. Finally, you can plant it in front of taller shrubs or roses and use it to fill the base of a small tree that it will adorn with charm.
In the kitchen:
Harvest the petals of fully bloomed, but not faded, flowers (they quickly lose their aroma). Only consume flowers from untreated plants. You can use them in confectionery, to flavour jellies, jams, and fruit salads, to prepare syrup, or even to flavour beverages.

Botanical data
When planting your 'Nadia Zerouali' Rose, choose a location that receives plenty of sunlight or light shade. Bed roses can tolerate different soil types, but they do not like too much limestone or acidity. They can grow in any garden if the soil is well-worked and rich enough. To plant your rose, loosen and work the soil well, and then add an amendment such as blood, fish and bone to the bottom of the planting hole. After planting, water the rose generously to remove any air pockets. Water it regularly for a few weeks to help it establish roots.
Pruning is essential for the flowering of English roses. At the end of winter, cut back the branches to 3-5 eyes above the ground, selecting an outward-facing bud for a more elegant appearance. Remove any dead or unsightly branches during this time. When the flowers start to bloom, remove the faded flowers, as this encourages the development of other buds. When pruning, make sure to cut at a slant above an bud.
Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
