Rosa Paint it Black
Thanks to the individuals (for order preparation and shipping), the rose bush I received looks healthy. Planted near the 'Thomas à Becket' variety, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... (or not?).

The 'Paint It Black' Rose, very similar to the black rose, is reminiscent of the famous 'Black Baccara' from Meilland. Its flower is slightly less full, but it may be even darker, especially when it blooms. It embodies a great horticultural success, and the advent of an iconic rose for generations of rose enthusiasts in search of perfection. With its perfect shape, it displays a very rich color and velvety petals that play with the light. A softly scented flower, it holds up well in a vase, ideal for creating elegant bouquets. The plant itself is easy to grow, and it blooms from spring to summer.
'Paint It Black' is a modern shrub rose related to hybrid tea roses, recently obtained in Germany. With an upright habit, it reaches a minimum height of 70 cm (28in) and a spread of 50 cm (20in) at maturity, a little more in hot climates. It produces strong branches, adorned with prickles, which bear elegant shiny dark green foliage, resistant to rose diseases. Throughout the season, if the faded flowers are removed, it produces new flowers. Its turbinated roses, composed of 30 to 35 petals, measure about 10 cm in diameter. They are born from almost black spiralled buds, then open into perfectly shaped roses, in a mix of very dark red, garnet, purple and black reflections. They are solitary, carried at the end of long straight shoots from the current year or 2-year-old ones. The deciduous foliage is absent in winter.
This Paint It Black rose, with its fascinating roses, is a rather exceptional variety due to the color of its flowers, but also for its good health. Planted in groups of 3 plants, it will bring a touch of wonder that will make a garden unique. Welcome to the flowerbeds accompanied by purple roses ('Sissi', 'Charles de Gaulle', 'Blue Girl'), it deserves to be planted individually, to be seen, not far from the house, surrounded by small gray foliage. For example, next to the Artemisia Powis Castle. Perennial or annual light plants are traditionally friends of roses, like the Crambe cordifolia, the tall foxglove, and the gypsophiles. It will be well highlighted in front of a boxwood or yew screen, or, on the contrary, surrounded by a miniature hedge or a carefully organized maze like in Italian or French gardens. It is also and above all an outstanding rose for bouquets!

Botanical data
When planting your 'Paint it Black' Rose, choose a sunny or lightly shaded location. Although modern roses can tolerate different conditions, they do not like an excess of limestone. In order to adapt to any garden, the soil should be well-worked, not too heavy, and sufficiently rich. Before planting, crumble the soil well and place an amendment at the bottom of the planting hole, such as blood, fish and bone. Water generously after planting to remove air pockets and water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting. It is recommended to treat the plant with fungicidal products regularly in humid climates to maintain beautiful foliage throughout the season.
Roses may appear stained or unsightly at the end of summer, but this does not impact their development. These blemishes are a natural occurrence and do not harm the rose.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
