Rosa Prince Jardinier bears sumptuous, fragrant roses all summer long. It has a strong growth rate and excellent disease resistance. This has earned it prestigious awards, including the German ADR* label. The large flowers of this rose are rather modern in style, without being stiff, and they have numerous petals arranged in a regular spiral. Their pale cream-white colour is delicately flushed with pearl-pink at the heart. Their magnificent fragrance is reminiscent of the centifolia rose, and is both sweet and sugary.
Â
Rosa Prince Jardinier is a modern shrub rose related to hybrid tea roses, registered in 2006 by Meilland. This vigorous bushy and upright shrub reaches about 1.1m (4ft) in height with a spread of 70 to 80cm (28 to 32in) at maturity, with a rapid growth rate. It produces strong branches, which bear elegant, semi-matte, dark green foliage that is disease-resistant. It bears immense compound flowers with 80 petals, measuring 13 to 14cm (5 to 6in) in diameter. They open in globular and well-rounded cups, becoming slightly looser at full bloom. They are solitary, borne at the tips of long shoots from the current year or emerging from 2-year-old stems. The abundant flowering lasts from June until the first frost. It will bloom throughout summer if faded flowers are removed.
Â
With its romantic, fragrant and charming flowers, Rosa Prince Jardinier is an excellent hedge and border plant, which can also be planted as a group of 3 specimens in isolation. Of medium size, it blends well with shrub borders displaying summer or autumn blooms, or mixed with light perennials and annuals such as sea kale, paniculate phlox or tall foxgloves. It can be accompanied by pink roses, such as Line Renaud or Charlotte Rampling. It provides an elegant display alongside mauve roses: cultivars like Blue Girl or Claude Brasseur will enhance its beautiful pastel flowering. It can be enhanced by a boxwood or yew screen, or, conversely, surrounded by a miniature hedge or a carefully organized maze, as in Italian or French gardens. Above all, it is a generous and sumptuously fragrant rose that can be placed near the house to enjoy its delicious aroma.
Meilland introduction from 2006.
*The ADR label is awarded each year by the Federation of German Rose Breeders to exceptional roses. The competing roses are evaluated under real conditions, without any sanitary treatment for three years and in eleven test stations throughout Germany. It is reviewed annually.

Botanical data
Plant in a sunny or lightly shaded location. Modern roses are tolerant, but do not appreciate excessive limestone. They will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked, not too heavy, and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose, work the soil by crumbling it and add fertiliser to the bottom of the planting hole (dried blood or dehydrated horn, for example). Water generously after planting to remove any air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting.
Roses are often stained or unsightly at the end of summer, but this will not hinder their development. These spots are not harmful to the rose, but are a natural phenomenon.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
