Description

The Savannah Grandiflora Rose is an impressive rose: highly fragrant, with very double, salmon pink flowers of 155-160 petals. Awarded with the prize for the most fragrant rose in 2015 at the Biltmore Rose Trial, it is characterised by a strong lemony, citrus fragrance. This cultivar is resistant to heat, humidity, and fungal diseases. The dense foliage is shiny dark green. It is ideally used in borders or as a standalone plant.

The Savannah Rose is a modern large-flower rose (floribunda), with a compact and bushy habit. It is a Kordes creation from 2013. It reaches about 1.20m in height and 90cm in spread at maturity, with rapid growth. This rose produces thorny branches that bear dense foliage, with large toothed leaflets, in a shiny dark green. All summer, and until October if you take care to remove faded flowers, the plant continuously produces very double, medium-sized flowers with a diameter of 10cm, with the characteristic spiralled shape of Tea roses, in salmon pink. The flowers are produced at the end of long shoots from the current year or emerging on 2-year-old stems.

The Savannah Rose is perfect for all gardens and all gardeners, as it is easy to grow and adapts to all climates. Its medium size allows it to be planted in small city gardens or courtyards, as well as in larger gardens. Ideal in mixed borders with perennials and bushes or in colourful mixed borders. Pair its salmon pink with the light blue flowers of sages, nepetas, lavenders, or perennial geraniums. Consider using daylilies to play with a variety of colours. Plant the silver foliage of wormwoods at its base and medium-sized ornamental grasses. Plant some foxgloves for height. Create a border with several bush roses.

Planting and care

To plant your rose, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm by crumbling the soil and adding a base fertiliser such as dried blood or dehydrated horn. Remove your plant from its pot and place it, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm of soil. Fill in the hole, tamp down, and water generously to remove any air pockets. In dry weather, water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root development. Also, remember to provide your rose with a special rose fertilizer that stimulates plant flowering.

Roses are often stained or unsightly at the end of summer, but it is not a problem for their development. These spots are not harmful to the rose; it is a natural phenomenon.
