Description

The Vulcano® 'KORcolipas' rose is a recent variety obtained by the Kordes house, renowned for its robust and attractive roses. Belonging to the Fantasia® collection, this rose stands out for its remarkable disease resistance (ADR label) and its brightly coloured flowering. Its yellow flowers washed with cherry red are long-lasting and decorative, resistant to heat and bad weather. It is a small, floriferous, and carefree bush that adapts well to flowerbeds as well as container growing. Its roses can also be picked to create superb bouquets.

The rose Vulcano®, created by W. Kordes' Söhne in 2019, has already received several international distinctions, including the title of Rose Laureate, recognising its excellence in competition. This rose has also received the German ADR label, among the most demanding in the world. Varieties are evaluated under real conditions, without any health treatment for three years and in various growing conditions. They are judged on their beauty, flowering, fragrance, colour, vegetation, habit, hardiness, growth, and disease resistance.

The Vulcano rose belongs to the category of large-flowered bush roses, often called "hybrid tea roses", known for their upright habit and generous flowering. Reaching 70 cm in height and 40 cm in width, this rose has an upright, bushy habit that structures flowerbeds well. Its double flowers measure between 7 and 8 cm in diameter, composed of bright yellow petals with hints of cherry red. A particularly bright colour in the garden. The flowering is recurrent. A profusion of flowers is produced from spring to autumn, from May-June to October-November. The thorny stems are robust, supporting the weight of the flowers without bending, even in rain or wind. The foliage is dark green, dense, and healthy, enhancing the plant's aesthetics. It is deciduous foliage that yellows and falls in autumn.

Vulcano lends itself to many landscaping uses due to its upright, compact, and bushy habit. It is perfect for creating flowery borders or flowerbeds but also adapts to container growing on a terrace or balcony. In fresh bouquets, its roses bring a colourful and elegant touch to the home. To enhance this rose, it can be associated with perennial plants such as Eryngium zabelii 'Big Blue' with metallic blue flowers, light grasses like Stipa tenuifolia, and Ammi 'Casablanca' with airy white umbels. For an unexpected architectural effect, add Kniphofia 'Tawny King', with their cream and orange spike flowers.

Planting and care

To plant your 'Vulcano' rose, work the soil to a depth of 25 cm by crumbling the earth well and placing a base fertiliser such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Remove your plant from its pot and position, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm of soil, fill in and water generously to eliminate air pockets. In dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root development. Also, remember to provide your rose with special rose fertiliser that promotes flowering.

Roses are often marked or unsightly at the end of summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These marks are not harmful to the rose; it is a natural phenomenon.
