Description

The 'Flamina' Rose or 'Chewizard' is a striking small bush that stands out in the garden. This new variety bears 3 to 5 double roses, perfectly shaped, edged with magenta pink on a yellow background. A magnificent colour enhanced by the shiny green foliage. It is a variety that flowers again until October. Robust and easy to grow, its compact growth will be perfect for creating large beds or beautiful flower pots with extremely colourful blooms for months.

'Flamina' or 'Chewizard' is a modern bush rose with large grouped flowers (floribunda), with a compact and bushy habit. It reaches about 55 cm (22in) in height and 50 cm (20in) in spread at maturity, with rapid growth. This rose produces thorny branches that bear abundant foliage, with large toothed leaflets, in a shiny dark green colour. Throughout the summer and until October, if faded flowers are removed, the plant continuously produces medium-sized double flowers, 8 cm (3in) in diameter, with the characteristic cone shape of tea roses. Their two-tone colour is very contrasting, with each petal of bright yellow being more or less edged with dark pink to magenta red. The flowers are produced in small clusters at the end of long shoots of the year or emerging on 2-year-old stems. The foliage of this variety is relatively disease-resistant under good growing conditions.

This Flamina floribunda rose allows you to create superb borders, planted en masse along the terrace or in large, vibrant flower beds. Combine them with light blue or white flowers: perennial flax, salvias, catmints, panicled baby's breath, or even with fennel, whose feathery foliage will calm its bold flowering. Planted in groups of 3 plants, this Flamina rose will then form an extremely colourful bush. Also, combine it with white ground cover roses (Swany, Marie Pavie), chamomiles or delicate grasses like Stipa (barbata, pennata, tenuifolia). Install it in a flower pot with summer colours, marigolds, or gaillardias.

Planting and care

Plant the 'Flamina' floribunda rose between November and March in well-drained soil. Choose clayey soil over sandy soil. If the soil is too sandy, compact, or dry in summer, add compost and well-rotted manure at the bottom of the planting hole. Avoid planting the rose in waterlogged soils during winter. Place it in a sunny location with partial shade.

To keep the plant healthy, use a specific fertiliser at the beginning of the vegetation period and regularly throughout the flowering period.

Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage re-blooming. Prune the stems by about a quarter of their length (from 4 to 6 buds from the base of the stem) at the end of winter. Always prune above an outward-facing bud to encourage growth and prevent branches from becoming tangled in the centre. Floribunda rose varieties are more vigorous and floriferous than large-flowered rose varieties.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
