Thanks to the individuals (for order preparation and shipping), the bare-root rose I received looks healthy. Planted along the edge of the pathway, I am now patiently awaiting its establishment... (or not?).

Description

The Rose Bush Smiling Sylvie® is a small bush with clustered flowers of modern design that will appeal to many gardeners for its generosity, ease of cultivation, and fresh pink colour. Its small, fragrant rose bouquets bloom continuously until the first cold weather on beautiful dark green foliage. Robust and easy to maintain, this variety is magnificent in a flower border or a small rose bed.

The Rose Bush Smiling Sylvie® 'VEL14fecno' is a Belgian creation by Lens dating back to 2016. It belongs to the category of floribunda roses; the flowers are grouped in corymbs at the ends of young shoots. This fast-growing variety quickly forms a small upright bush, without stiffness, slightly flared. It will reach about 50 cm (20in) in height and 60 cm (24in) in width. Its thorny and flexible stems bear brownish young shoots. They unfold into glossy leaflets of a fairly dark green and are not very susceptible to diseases. Its flowering is abundant and uninterrupted from June until October if the soil does not dry out too much. Its 6 cm (2in) wide roses are double, cup-shaped, gathered in bouquets with numerous flowers. Their colour is a very fresh light pink. Just before fading, they reveal a heart of yellow stamens. The flowers have a nice fragrance. The deciduous foliage is absent in winter.

Floribunda roses allow for beautiful small hedges planted mixed at the edge of the terrace or in small shrub beds. They are good companions for phlox paniculata, catmints, and tall baby's breath. The use of this lovely variety 'Smiling Sylvie' is versatile, according to each gardener's desires: in a rose bed, in the company of pink varieties (The Fairy), purple ('Violet Hood') or mauve ('Blue Boy', 'Rhapsody in Blue'). Perennial geraniums and penstemons also go very well with landscape roses. The fragrant roses of 'Smiling Sylvie' are charming in bouquets.

Planting and care

Plant the 'Sourire de Sylvie' Rose in ordinary, well-prepared, well-fertilized and well-drained soil from November to March. Roses prefer clayey soils that are rather heavy than light. In soil that is too sandy, compact or dry in summer, it is preferable to add compost, well-rotted manure or compost to the substrate when planting. However, this rose dislikes waterlogged soils in winter. Place it in a sunny position or partial shade in hot climates. Roses require a specific fertiliser at the start of vegetation and regularly throughout the flowering period due to their high nutrient needs.

Roses are often stained or unsightly at the end of summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These spots are not harmful to the rose but are natural.
