Thanks to the individuals (Elise for order preparation & quality control and shipping service), the rose bush I received appears healthy. Planted near the "La rose Monsieur" variety, I am now waiting to see its progress... Note: Received without the variety label (which is essential to identify the rose bush in all seasons). More information

This rose bears medium-sized double flowers (5 to 10cm (2 to 4in) wide). They boast an intense and velvety red colour, and a light scent of wild rose. The flowers resist rain and do not burn in the sun. They bloom in clusters from June to October, highlighted by dark green, glossy foliage that is very disease-resistant. Its compact and wide habit works wonders in flower beds, and it can also be used as ground cover.

Description

Rosa The Times, also known by its name Mariandel, is a variety with dense, low and wide vegetation. It is resistant to rain and heat, and requires little maintenance. It is suitable for ornamental use in flower beds and borders, where it can form a flowering ground cover for months. Its intense red double flowers bloom in clusters, highlighted by shiny dark green foliage that remains attractive throughout the season. The flowers emit a light scent of wild rose.

Rosa The Times was introduced in 1985 by the German rose breeder Kordes, renowned for his particularly robust creations. It is a bed variety belonging to floribunda roses, which produce flowers grouped in clusters. The bush has a flexible and well-branched habit. It quickly reaches a height of 60cm (24in) and a width of 70 to 80cm (28 to 32in). Its roses emerge from pointed buds. They measure on average 7cm (3in) in width and have a turbinate shape, with many well-organised velvety petals. Their colour is a very bright blood red. Each flower exudes a light and pleasant scent of wild rose. The young shoots are coppery to purplish in colour. The mature foliage is divided into small, pointed, leathery leaflets of a shiny dark green colour, and is resistant to rose diseases. The plant is deciduous in winter.

This charming and cheerful rose is perfect for flower beds, planted in groups of 3 plants, in large borders at the forefront of a shrub bed, or along a pathway. It also adapts well to container cultivation, on a patio or balcony. You can plant it with other ground cover roses or landscape roses, as well as with many perennials or annuals with light flowering such as perennial geraniums, cornflowers, or catmints. Also consider pairing it with small herbaceous clematis with violet, blue, or white flowers.

Planting and care

Plant in a sunny or lightly shaded location. Floribunda roses are tolerant, but do not like excessive limestone. They will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked, not too heavy, and sufficiently rich. To plant your rose, work the soil by crumbling it and add fertiliser to the bottom of the planting hole (dried blood or dehydrated horn, for example). Water generously after planting to remove any air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root development.

Pruning is essential for flowering. At the end of winter, shorten the branches to 3-5 eyes above the ground (at the lowest), choosing an eye pointing outward for a more elegant habit. Remove dead wood and unsightly branches. Prune at an angle above an eye.

Regularly remove faded flowers to encourage new blooms.
