Thanks to the individuals (for order preparation and shipping), the bare-root rose received is small but appears healthy to me. Planted close to the 'Opalia' and 'Innocencia' varieties, I am now patiently waiting for it to establish... (or not?).

Description

The 'Garance' Rose is a bushy rose with clustered flowers that stand out from afar, with its large clusters of striking double red flowers revealing a bouquet of golden stamens. Vigorous, generous, and disease-resistant, this small bush adds colour to the garden for almost five months. Its glossy foliage, preceded by young bronze shoots, makes it an attractive subject from spring to autumn. In the garden, this rose requires little maintenance. It is ideal in a flower bed or a large border.

The 'Garance' Rose or 'VEL13fmela' is a beautiful Belgian creation from Lens, dating back to 2016, commemorating the Centenary of the Great War-Verdun. It belongs to the category of floribunda roses, with flowers grouped in large corymbs at the end of young shoots. This fast-growing variety quickly forms a dense, upright bush. It reaches a height of about 90 cm (35in) and a spread of 50-60 cm (20-24in). Its thorny stems bear foliage divided into small, thick, glossy leaflets of medium green, unaffected by diseases. It flowers abundantly from June to October if not lacking water in summer. Its flowers are gathered in clusters of 15 to 20 units. Each one measures 11 cm (4in) in diameter and displays a double row of petals. Their colour is a very bright red, with more pink or white areas around the stamen-filled centre. They are nicely scented and attract many pollinators. The deciduous foliage is absent in winter.

The 'Garance' bush rose looks stunning when planted in groups of three subjects arranged in a triangle, its mass of flowers attracting all eyes at the edge of a short grass meadow or in the centre of a small flower bed. It can be paired with other robust and floriferous roses with natural charm, such as 'Waterloo', 'Matchball', or 'Puccini'. Perennial geraniums and catmints are the traditional companions of roses, so don't hesitate to mix them in your arrangements. Polyantha roses create beautiful small hedges planted in a mix along a pathway, highlighting a narrow path or even trailing down a stone wall.

Planting and care

To plant the 'Garance Rose', you should do it in ordinary, well-prepared and well-fertilised soil between November and March. Roses prefer clayey soils that are not compacted. If the soil is too sandy, compact, or dry in summer, add compost or well-rotted manure when planting. This rose will not flower well in summer if the soil is too dry. Plant it in a sunny location or at least partially shaded in hot climates for best results. Remember to use a specific fertiliser at the beginning of the vegetation period and regularly throughout the flowering period since roses require specific nutrients to thrive.

Roses may develop unsightly spots at the end of summer, but this is a natural occurrence and doesn't harm the rose's growth.
