Rosa x floribunda Rigo Rosen Caracho - Groundcover Rose
Rosa x floribunda Rigo Rosen Caracho - Groundcover Rose
Thanks to the individuals (for order preparation and shipping), the bare root rose received appears healthy to me. Planted along the edge of the driveway, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... (or not?)

The Rigo Rosen Landscape Rose Caracho is a low bush as robust as it is generous that will please with its long and generous dazzling flowering. Its small, barely double roses with each petal of a light red doubled with cream white markings create a beautiful two-tone effect, highlighted by dark green foliage that remains beautiful throughout the season. An abundant and joyful repeat flowering rose until the first frosts. Very hardy, indifferent to heat, floriferous and almost maintenance-free, this rose finds its place in all flower gardens. Its small development is perfectly suited for growing in pots or containers to dress up the patio or balcony.
The Caracho Rose is a German creation by Kordes launched in 2001, distinguished by the highly selective German A.D.R label in 2020. It is part of the 'Rigo Rosen' collection developed in partnership with 'Globe Planter' bringing together varieties selected for their truly exceptional disease resistance, their pretty groundcover habit, and their ability to flower enthusiastically in all regions. All Rigo-Roses have obtained the ADR label.
This variety 'Caracho' belongs to the family of floribunda roses, with flowers grouped in clusters, in the category of landscape roses because of its slightly spreading habit, wider than tall. It quickly forms a small dense bush, about 50 cm (20in) in height and 70 cm (28in) in spread. It is covered with decorative foliage, a beautiful bright green becoming darker in summer, with small leaflets lightly glossy and finely toothed on the edges. Its young shoots are a decorative purple-red colour. Its flowering is abundant, regularly renewing from June until October in successive waves if the soil remains somewhat moist in summer. Its wide corollas of 4-5 cm (2in) are semi-double, quite flat cups, composed of 9 to 18 petals, gathered in clusters. The buds enclosed in long apple green sepals open into flowers with slightly rounded petals. The deciduous foliage turns yellow before falling in autumn.
The 'Caracho' groundcover rose adapts to all soils that are not too dry and to all climates. In warmer regions, place it preferably in the morning sun, while it will flower better in full sun in the cooler areas. It works well as a border for a path or flower bed, above a wall or on a large slope where it will cover the ground. It can also be planted in groups of three plants, arranged in a triangle, as a specimen in a lawn. Plant it en masse or associated with groundcover roses with white, yellow or orange flowers to emphasise the path or the masses of light or opulent shrubs and perennials. For example, it can be paired with perennial geraniums (Geranium Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion), bellflowers (lactiflora, rapunculoides), catmints, delphiniums, foxgloves, or other perennial salvias. Very easy to associate, it will happily accompany shrub roses, regardless of their colour, in a romantic garden.

Botanical data
Plant the Rigo Rosen 'Caracho' rose from November to March, in ordinary, well-prepared, and well-drained soil. Roses prefer clay soils, rather than light soils. In soil that is too sandy, compact, or dry in summer, it is preferable to incorporate compost or decomposed manure at the bottom of the planting hole. However, this rose dislikes waterlogged soils in winter. Place it in a sunny location, preferably with some shade. Roses are hungry plants, and a specific fertiliser application will be beneficial at the start of the growing period, and regularly throughout the flowering period. To encourage reblooming, regularly remove faded flowers. Floribunda and polyantha rose varieties are more vigorous and floriferous than large-flowered rose varieties. Therefore, prune the stems to about a quarter of their length (from 4 to 6 eyes from the base of the stem) at the end of winter. Always prune above an outward-facing bud so that the bush can bush out and the branches do not become tangled in the centre of the branches.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
