ADR
This new groundcover rose produces clusters of small double roses in shades of blush pink and soft apricot orange, a colour palette that was missing in this category. Ideal for creating large borders or vibrant colourful carpets, it is also well-suited for container gardening.

Description

The Rose Rekord Cubana is a small spreading bush that stands out for the colour of its double flowers, combining subtle shades of peach pink and apricot orange. Its clusters of small double roses are enhanced by a very pretty dark green foliage, which remains healthy until the end of the season. It will find its place in all flower gardens, even the smallest ones, and will beautify any balcony. Very hardy, truly easy to grow, floriferous and almost maintenance-free, this charming little rose is simply perfect.

The Rose Cubana 'korpatetof' is a German creation by Kordes, introduced to the market in 2001. It is part of a series of roses, the 'Rekord' selected in partnership with 'Globe Planter' for their disease resistance, abundant flowers, hardiness and ease of maintenance. This 'Cubana' variety belongs to the family of floribunda roses with clustered flowers, and to the category of groundcover roses due to its low and slightly spreading habit, forming a compact cushion. It reaches about 50 cm (20in) in all directions. Its thorny stems are densely covered with decorative foliage, a beautiful dark green, divided into small shiny leaflets finely dentate along the edges. Its flowering is abundant and continuous from June to October if the soil remains somewhat moist in summer. Its 5 cm (2in) wide corollas are double and gathered in bouquets of 5 to 7 flowers. The tight buds open into cups, with slightly undulate petals, revealing a yellow throat. Their colour gradually evolves from salmon pink to apricot and then to very pale cream orange, creating a nice gradient of orange tones throughout the bush. Its deciduous foliage falls in autumn.

The groundcover rose 'Cubana' adapts to all soils that are not too dry and to all climates, which allows it to be welcomed without reservation in many regions. It works wonders when planted en masse as a border, in a flower bed, or on a large slope where it will cover the ground. It can also be planted in groups of three specimens, arranged in a triangle, or as a specimen in the centre of a bed of low-growing flowers. For example, associate it with white or even purple groundcover roses to highlight the path of a pathway or the beds of bushes and perennials. It can be paired with blue perennial geraniums (Geranium Blue Cloud, Anne Folkard, Nimbus, Orion), catmints, delphiniums, foxgloves, or other perennial salvias. It pairs perfectly with shrub roses with orange or white flowers in a romantic garden.

Planting and care

Plant the 'Cubana' rose from November to March, in ordinary, well-prepared, and well-drained soil. Roses prefer clay soils that are rather heavy than light. In soils that are too sandy, compact, or dry in summer, it is preferable to incorporate compost, decomposed manure, or humjus at the bottom of the planting hole. However, this rose dislikes waterlogged soils in winter. Place it in a sunny location, preferably in partial shade. Roses are hungry plants, and a specific fertiliser application will be beneficial at the start of vegetation, and regularly throughout the flowering period.

To encourage reblooming, regularly remove faded old flowers. Floribunda rose varieties are more vigorous and floriferous than large-flowered rose varieties. Therefore, prune the stems by about a quarter of their length (from 4 to 6 buds from the base of the stem) in late winter. Always prune above an outward-facing bud to allow the bush to bush out and prevent the branches from tangling in the centre of the branches.
