Our brooms or Red-flowered Cytisus. Well known for its yellow spring flowering, the Cytisus scoparius or broom also exists in "red", although this colour is more of a mix of red and pink tones in this bush from the Fabaceae family. Let's mention the famous Cytisus 'Boskoop Ruby' which is very floriferous, covered in cherry pinkish-red flowers at the end of spring. Some other varieties also offer a flowering close to red, for example the broom 'Roter Favorit', with multicoloured flowers in carmine red and dark red with a touch of yellow. C. scoparius 'Killiney Red', rare in cultivation, is another selection with deep red flowers and darker and velvety wings. These bushes thrive in a light, well-drained soil, with a sandy or rocky tendency, non-calcareous. Choose a sunny and warm exposure. All these varieties make beautiful massifs, large colorful borders, or scented and honey-producing small hedges.
The broom is a generous but frugal bush, which generally thrives in poor and fairly dry soil in summer. It deserves a prime spot in the garden. It can be associated with many shrubs with foliage for a spring flowering or a staggered one.
