A selection of Buddleias or Butterfly Bushes whose flowering displays mauve and violet tones, even purplish. These bushes, of varying sizes, deciduous, semi-evergreen or evergreen, offer often fragrant flower spikes that are much visited by pollinators. Most bloom in summer, like Buddleia davidii Purple Emperor, but this category also includes varieties that bloom in spring (Buddleia alternifolia) and others that bloom in two waves, such as the magnificent Buddleia Lochinch. Among the larger cultivars, well suited for hedge planting, we can mention vigorous and floriferous bushes like 'Black Knight', reaching a height of 3m (10ft), with very long dark purple, fragrant flower spikes, or the astonishing Buddleia davidii Butterfly Tower, with an upright habit and intensely purple-violet flowers. For small gardens, opt for dwarf selections such as 'Blue Chip' with its blue-mauve flowers, or 'Nanho Purple', a bush as delicate in its foliage as its flowers, particularly suitable for dry soils. With Buddleia, the colour blue doesn't really exist, it tends more towards mauve or violet. Some varieties like Adonis Blue butterfly tree or the small 'Nanho Blue' fall into this category.
