Received two days ago and planted in the ground, it arrived in good condition but I find it a bit feeble... Only 3 small branches and no buds. Not as lush as the one in the photo... what a pity!

Description

Stout bush with autumn flowering, Camellia sasanqua Plantation Pink is a fragrant variety with large soft pink flowers.

Cherished for its fragrant blooms, this variety flowers from October until December. It forms a compact bush measuring 1.20m (4 ft) in height and 1m (3 ft 4 in) in width, and produces large single soft pink flowers, approximately 6-7cm (2.5 in) in diameter.

The elliptical leaves of the camellia are dark green and glossy, measuring 5 to 8 cm (2 to 3 in) in length, and are evergreen. Hardy down to -12°C, this variety is cultivated in partial shade, sheltered from cold winds. It prefers acidic, humus-rich, moist and light soiils.

Plant Camellia sasanqua Plantation Pink in ericaceous soil along with azaleas, skimmia, Pieris and heathers. Its compact size allows for pot cultivation: place it on a partially shaded terrace and bring the pot indoors as soon as the cold sets in to enjoy the flowering for longer.

Planting and care

Camellia sasanqua enjoys a partially shaded site sheltered from cold and drying winds. You can grow it in full, not-too-strong sun, but the roots need to stay moist. Plant it in a moist, humus-rich, acidic and well-drained soil. Do not plant the bush too deeply; the top of the root ball should be covered with 3 cm (1.2 in) of soil. In winter cover it with a 5 to 7 cm (2 to 3 in) thick mulch composed of leaf compost and crushed bark. Beware of late frosts that can damage the flowers and buds. During dry periods, water the bush to prevent the dropping of flower buds.
