Eucalyptus gunnii 'France Bleu Rengun', also known as cider gum, is a French novelty that is making its way in the horticultural world. This evergreen and ramified eucalyptus forms a small bush, reaching 2 m to 4 m (6.6 ft to 13.1 ft) in height and 1 m (3.3 ft) in width once fully grown. Its very fine bluish foliage is gently aromatic on a columnar and dancing silhouette, which is highly architectural. Easy to maintain, its young reddish-brown branches do not require pruning. This plant will make our gardens and terraces a little piece of paradise. It is ideal for small spaces and adapts to all well-drained soils. It requires full sun to give its best.
Eucalyptus gunii 'France Bleu Rengun' is a small bush of the myrtle family, descended from Eucalyptus gunnii, native to the mountainous regions of Tasmania. Like it, it has a light and aromatic grey-blue evergreen foliage, carried by reddish-brown branches when young. Its bark regularly exfoliates, revealing new white bark. The comparison stops at this stage. 'France Bleu Rengun' remains modest in size and shows a multi-branched and elegant growth habit. Its foliage gives off a sweet but intense scent and brings a breath of fresh air with its very light appearance. It is also a less hardy plant, which may suffer at temperatures below -10° C (14° F).
Eucalyptus gunnii 'France Bleu Rengun' works wonders in scenes dominated by white or silver. It brings an exotic touch to the garden planted as a hedge with other bushes, in groups or alone. On the balcony or terrace, its lightness and the transparency of its foliage will add a gentle, bluish touch. Easy to maintain, and moderately hardy, it does not require pruning. It can be pruned very short to remain compact, but it will lose some of its soul. It is an elegant plant at all stages of its growth, both young and adult. The ideal climate for this small tree is that of the seaside, where the cold is mild and of short duration. Elsewhere, it would be wise to protect it against extreme temperatures.

Botanical data
Plant Eucalyptus gunnii 'France Bleu Rengun' in early spring, in well-drained, dry soil. Choose a warm, sunny location, sheltered from strong and cold winds. In mild climates, you can plant it directly in the ground. The growth of this tree is rapid. Pruning is unnecessary. Watering and fertilisation are optional. In March, you can cut it back to ground level to form a beautiful, dense bush, reaching a height of 2m (6.6 ft). It can be grown successfully in pots, which should be large enough to allow the tree to grow freely. Choose a light and rich substrate. Care should be taken with watering. Store in a cold greenhouse, or in an unheated and bright room during winter, like an oleander.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
