Description

Forsythia Mikador is a very recent hybrid variety, obtained in France in 2012.  An adundant plant and really easy to grow, it can undoubtedly find a place in all gardens, even the most modest ones. The shrub, low and very compact, is particularly floriferous, as its buds form regularly along its branches.  This shrub therefore remains decorative for longer.  It forms a slightly spreading and blooming mass of a thousand small sulphur yellow flowers from the beginning of spring, dazzling the garden like the first sun after a long winter.  Hardy and very tolerant.

Forsythia x intermedia Mikador is a charming deciduous shrub belonging to the oleaceae family. Resulting from Minier research, it is descended from a hybrid of two species native to China, Forsythia suspensa and Forsythia viridissima. It will reach 50 cm (19.7 in) to 1m (3 ft 4 in) 50 in height with a spread of 1 to 2 m.  It quickly forms a rounded bushy habit with well branched, slightly spreading and a very dense vegetation. Like other forsythias, it provides a wonderful spring spectacle in March, with its naked branches covered with numerous small bell-shaped flowers with soft and bright yellow petals and stamens. Flowering is followed by the appearance of deciduous foliage. Its long pointed leaves, 8 to 10 cm (3.1 to 3.9 in) long, are very dentate and have a beautiful glossy dark green colour.

Forsythia Mikador is hardy and very easy to maintain, it grows in all types of soil and in most of our climates. This variety is ideal for small spaces or small gardens. It also grows very well in pots, given its moderate size, as a specimen or in rockeries.  It makes an excellent border plant in the company of Abelia grandiflora, the smoke bush or with mahonias or mock orange trees. It can be planted as a low and flowering hedge as its branches are quite low. In early December, cut a branch or two and put them in a vase, they will bloom for Christmas.
