Planted this autumn, very shy flowering, probably too young a young plant, despite that the flowers are a very beautiful golden yellow. Next year, it should be much more abundant and lovely...

Description

Forsythia 'Nimbus' is part of a new series of Forsythias x intermedia developed by Minier. This recent particularly compact bush, truly easy to grow, offers an early and generous flowering. It forms an erect and dense bush, which is covered from the beginning of winter with a multitude of yellow flowers. With its reduced size and its golden bush appearance, it is ideal for ornamenting small spaces and rockeries, but also for container gardening. It allows you to play with the staggered flowering, in association with other varieties or with other spring-flowering shrubs.

Forsythia x intermedia 'Nimbus'® is an adorable deciduous shrub belonging to the olive family. It descends from a spontaneous hybrid resulting from two species native to China, Forsythia suspensa and Forsythia viridissima. It will reach, after at least ten years of cultivation, 50cm (19.7in) to 1m (3ft 4in) in height with a spread of 75cm, showing from the start an erect bushy habit, and a very stocky growth. Like other forsythias, but before certain varieties like 'Boucle d'Or', it provides a true spring spectacle in March, covering its naked branches with countless small bell-shaped flowers with an orange throat, adorned with bright yellow petals and stamens, tightly packed together, giving them a golden feather-like appearance. The flowering is followed by the appearance of deciduous foliage. Its long pointed leaves, 8 to 10cm (3.1 - 3.9in) long, are highly toothed and have a beautiful shiny dark green colour. Resistant variety to phytophthora.

Forsythia 'Nimbus' is perfectly hardy and very easy to maintain, it requires little to no pruning, grows in all types of soil and under most climates. It can be grown in pots, given its moderate size, as well as in isolation, rockeries or bordering flower beds, especially in the company of the 'Pink Sparkler' spirea, the 'Bloomerang Purple' lilac or Mahonias or Abelia 'Sunny Charm'. It can be planted as a low and flowering hedge, as its branches are quite low. In early December, cut a branch or two and put them in a vase, they will bloom for Christmas.
