Description

With woody stems and a spreading bush, the red Hibiscus moscheuto has large, woolly-backed leaves and blood-red flowers that can reach up to 25cm (9.8 in) in diameter. This plant can withstand cold weather but needs a lot of heat to flower properly. If grown in cooler gardens that are too cold in summer, it will bloom in September.!

Planting and care

This genus is mainly known for its shrub-like forms, but the species here demonstrates that it also includes perennials. These unique marsh plants can bring an exotic touch to any garden. For an enhanced effect, they can be planted alongside hardy Hedychium or banana plants in rich and moist soil in a warm location. Although they are robust, in colder climates, they need winter protection.
