Hello, I planted this young plant in autumn. I am in Brittany. This winter, we had two episodes of frost down to -4. During the first episode, I didn't protect the spike of the plant, and during the second episode, I placed hay and cut herb around the spike. Today, on 18th March, I notice small green shoots growing on the stems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Description

Hibiscus syriacus 'Freedom' has double, crinkled, pink-purple petals. Its compact habit and slow growth are sought-after qualities for small gardens and container cultivation.

An ornamental bush, it has an upright habit and late flowering. From July to September, this highly floriferous bush produces large, solitary or paired flowers. Its double flowers are pink-purple with white stamens, and measure about 7 cm (2.8 in) in diameter.

The foliage is deciduous. The leaves are dark green and turn yellow in autumn. Hibiscus syriacus 'Freedom' is a vigorous variety and it is also very hardy. At maturity, it can reach a height of 1.5 m to 2.5 m (4.9 ft to 8.2 ft).

Nicknamed Tree Mallow, this hibiscus can be cultivated as a solitary plant as well as in groups. It can be found in rockeries, in free hedges with deciduous bushes, or in borders with large perennials or grasses.
