Received with a few withered leaves, drought? or more likely a small frostbite? Waiting and to be seen over time during the spring regrowth.

Description

Hydrangea macrophylla 'You and Me Romance' is a recent variety from the 'You and Me' series, and undoubtedly one of the most refined. Its inflorescences are spectacular, opening in flat and light heads, then rounding as they bloom. They are composed of double to triple florets in very fresh shades of pink, mauve or pale blue depending on the nature of the soil. The effect is sensational, and these delicate flowers remain decorative for a long time on a well-branched bush.

Hydrangea macrophylla 'You and Me Romance' is a hardy bush that belongs to the hydrangea family, derived from species originating from China and Japan. The 'You and Me' hydrangea series was born in 2005 and is starting to prove itself. This bush has a rounded and ramified habit, reaching a height and width of 1.20m (3in 11ft). From July to October, its superb inflorescences form a crown of star-shaped flowers, with a double or triple row of petals that densify and round out over the days without ever appearing heavy. Their colour depends on the soil that hosts the plant. In neutral soil, they will be a soft pink, in slightly acidic soil, slightly more mauve, and in strongly acidic or alum-rich soil, lavender blue. The flowering is accompanied by medium green, deciduous foliage. The leaves are opposite, reaching a minimum length of about ten centimeters. They are single, ovate to elliptical, ending in a pointed tip, and serrated.

The 'You and Me Romance' hydrangea has a unique charm that will delight lovers of romantic flowers. Hydrangeas are well known for brightening the north side of houses. This one will thrive in a non-burning east or west exposure, in flower beds as well as hedges. This variety is particularly suitable for container cultivation, which can be placed on the terrace or near the entrance. Although these plants dislike limestone, they are not strictly speaking ericaceous plants. Pair them with Magellan fuchsias, Mahonias, annual impatiens, or plant spring-flowering bulbs in front of their round silhouette.

Planting and care

Your soil must be worked deeply to a depth of 4cm (15.7in) X 40cm (15.7in). A good base fertilizer (horn or dehydrated blood) will promote the growth of your plant and nourish it without the risk of burning. Hydrangeas require a sunny or semi-shady location depending on the moisture of your soil and a neutral to acidic soil. If your soil tends to be dry, mix our water retainer, stocksorb, with the soil when filling the planting hole and provide a watering basin on the surface. At the end of summer, we advise not to cut the dry umbels, which will protect the terminal shoots of the branches in winter. You can cut all the dry flowers at the end of February or at the first signs of spring. Pot cultivation is also very easy if you use deep enough pots (40 to 50cm (19.7in) deep), water properly, and regularly apply fertilizer to your plants. Pot cultivation: Use a good mixture based on heather soil, to which you can add organic material such as roasted horn or dehydrated blood, and a bit of garden soil to make your substrate less light. Plant your plants: two or three plants in a 50cm (19.7in) pot will already look beautiful in the first year. White, red, and pink varieties are more colourfast because the watering water is often limestone. Blue varieties require watering with rainwater and regular use of a hydrangea bluing agent based on alum. The use of a hydrangea fertilizer is also highly recommended.
