Beautiful vine-plant. Delivered quickly and in great condition. Planted in a pot upon arrival in peat soil. The flower heads are very numerous and have a stunning bluish-purple shade. It will find its place in the garden in autumn. Highly recommended.

Description

Hydrangea macrophylla You and Me Together is a compact bush suitable for small gardens as well as pot cultivation. It bears double flowers, grouped in balls that bloom pink tinged with green before becoming solid pink. It should be reserved a prime spot in flower beds or on rather shaded terraces, or exposed to the morning sun, in moist, rich and non-calcareous soil.

Hydrangea macrophylla You and Me Together is a hardy bush that belongs to the Hydrangeaceae family, originating from China and Japan. This bush displays a rounded habit, as high as it is wide with a 1.2m (4ft) span. From July to October, its inflorescences form a crown of double flowers, which are pink tinged with green before becoming solid pink. The flowering is accompanied by dark green, deciduous foliage. The leaves are opposite, and reach 10cm (4in) in length. They are single, ovate to elliptical, ending in a pointed tip, and saw-toothed.

You and Me Together is hardy. Hydrangeas are well known for brightening the north side of houses. This one will thrive in an east or west exposure that is non-burning, in beds as well as in hedges. This variety is particularly suitable for container cultivation on a terrace or near a doorway. Even though these plants dread limestone, they are not strictly acidic-soil plants. Pair them with magellanica fuchsias or annual impatiens, or plant spring-flowering bulbs in front of their round silhouette.

Planting and care

Plant in spring or early autumn, preferably in a semi-shaded position, for example against an east-facing, or even north-facing wall. It does not require ericaceous soil, but appreciates deep, moist but well-drained, fairly fertile soil, possibly enriched with a good base fertiliser before planting. If planting near a wall and the soil is dry at its base, place the root ball at least 30 to 40cm (12 to 16in) away from it and incorporate a quantity of well-decomposed compost to better retain moisture in the soil. Very hardy, it is not afraid to be planted in cold regions.

As for pruning, remove the faded flowers on the first bud or on the pair of buds directly below. When the plant is mature, prune the older stems back to the base by a quarter or a third. This will encourage the formation of young shoots. Carry out this pruning every year during March and April.
