The two hydrangeas arrived in good condition, except for a small branch broken. As soon as they are planted, I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the first leaves!

Description

Designed for small gardens, Hydrangea paniculata 'White Diamond' has a compact size and giant flowers, rarely seen in this type of hydrangea.

This delightful shrubby hydrangea barely exceeds 1.2 m (3 ft 11 in) in both height and width. From August to October, it is covered with panicles of flowers 25 cm (9.8 in) long, which attract butterflies. Of medium size, these panicles are composed of very wide sterile petals, initially a very pure white, before tinting pink and then becoming almost red as they fade.

The panicles are carried by short, thick and very rigid branches. Paniculate Hydrangea has deciduous dark green foliage which tints red in the autumn.

Hydrangea paniculata 'White Diamond' forms a compact bush as wide as it is high at 1.2 m (3 ft 11 in) in height by 1.2 m (3 ft 11 in) in width. Consequently, it fits wonderfully on terraces and balconies but can also be planted along the edge of a bed. Vigorous and robust, it has good hardiness and requires sun and humidity to flower properly.

Planting and care

When planting, install your Hydrangea paniculata White Diamond in deeply worked soil. A good base fertiliser (horn or dried blood) will aid the recovery of your young plant and nourish it without risk of burning. Hydrangea paniculata prefers humus-bearing soils but more easily tolerates poor soils and drought. If your soil tends to be dry, mix our STOCKOSORB® water retainer with the soil when filling in the planting hole and provide a surface watering basin. The plant's spring vegetation appears rather late.

Water frequently during the flowering period, while not watering directly onto the foliage or flowers. At the end of summer, we advise you not to cut the dry umbels which will protect the terminal shoots of the branches in winter; you should cut all the dry flowers at the end of February or on the first summer days. Hydrangea paniculata requires vigorous pruning to develop large inflorescences.
