Very beautiful colourful foliage that persists almost throughout winter, even if it has to fall in spring, very attractive bush.

Description

Hydrangea quercifolia Snowflake, also known as oakleaf hydrangea, is a variety with double, anise-white flowers, whose foliage takes on gorgeous red-brown hues in autumn when planted in a sunny exposure.

Pretty flowers in elongated, curved white panicles, shaded with anise-white which turn washed pink in autumn. It blooms from July and its deciduous foliage, with lobed edges similar to that of the pedunculate oak, is of great ornamental appeal. In autumn, it browns and reddens as the evenings grow cooler.

Very hardy and easy to cultivate, Hydrangea quercifolia Snowflake enjoys sunny exposures. It grows in light and draining soil and tolerates limestone.

Planting and care

This hydrangea requires a sunny position to produce autumn colours. When planting, install it in a deeply worked, humus-bearing, neutral to acidic soil. A good base fertiliser (horn or dehydrated blood) will encourage the recovery of your young plant and nourish it without risk of burning. If your soil is dry, mix our STOCKOSORB® water retainer with the soil when filling the planting hole and provide a surface watering basin. At the end of summer, we advise you not to cut the dry umbels which will protect the terminal shoots of the branches in winter; you should cut all the dry flowers at the end of February or on the first summer days. The plant's spring vegetation appears quite late.
