Description
This Decorative Fruit St John's Wort collection consists of three varieties of Hypericum inodorum from the Magical® series, a new generation of hybrids developed in the Netherlands, resistant to the rust disease that usually affects many shrubby St John's Worts. They produce berries of different colours depending on the variety. These small compact bushes flower abundantly from the first year and bear fruit generously and regularly. They are very hardy, tolerate cold well and adapt to various types of soil, provided it is well-drained.
This collection includes:
1 x Hypericum inodorum 'Magical Red Flame': This variety reaches 90 cm in height and 70 cm in width. It is characterised by its bright red fruits that appear after the flowering of bright yellow flowers, from June to September. Its dark green leaves provide a beautiful backdrop for the fruiting.
1 x Hypericum inodorum 'Magical Universe': Reaching approximately 80 cm in height and 60 cm in width, this variety produces shiny red then brown fruits, superb against its green leaves. Its yellow flowering extends from July to October.
1 x Hypericum inodorum 'Magical Beauty': This variety measures about 80-90 cm in height and 60-70 cm in width. Its pink fruits add a more pastel note to the garden. The yellow flowers appear from June to August, followed by fruits until autumn.
The St John's Worts in this collection can be planted in spring or autumn, in full sun or partial shade. They integrate perfectly into beds, large borders, or pots. Space the young plants 60 cm apart to allow for optimal growth. In pots, choose a well-draining substrate and water moderately to avoid excess moisture.
To accompany these St John's Worts, consider choosing Echinacea purpurea (purple coneflower) and Nepeta faassenii (catmint). Plant three coneflowers in front of the St John's Worts. Arrange five catmints in front to create a soft border. Between the Hypericum, plant Berberis thunbergii 'Atropurpurea Nana' (dwarf barberry) and Spiraea japonica 'Little Princess'. Place the three small Berberis and two pale pink flowering dwarf spiraeas around the St John's Worts. You can also take branches adorned with decorative fruits to enhance your autumn bouquets.

Planting and care
Plant these bushes in early spring or autumn. Choose a sunny spot or slightly shaded in the afternoon. They will adapt to any well-prepared, rather rich, well-drained garden soil, but not too dry in summer. Water regularly to aid establishment, and apply a mulch at the base of the young plants in early summer to maintain some moisture and conserve water.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
