a well-formed young plant, in accordance with the description, with even at this time still a few coloured leaves... can't wait to see it settle in the garden!

Description

Oxydendrum arboreum, also known as Andromeda arborea or Sorrel Tree, is a bush with remarkable summer flowering. Its appeal continues with foliage that turns fiery in autumn.

The blooms of the Oxydendrum arboreum are abundant and last at least two months. They consist of white bells gathered in long pendulous clusters measuring 10 to 25cm (3.9 - 9.8 in). Its foliage is deciduous and turns reddish-purple in autumn. Its slender pyramidal habit and its long slightly inflected branches make this sourwood or Sorrel tree a very elegant and airy bush. In Florida, where it originates from, it can grow over 25m (82 ft) tall, but in Northern Europe it rarely exceeds 5m.

Like many species in its family, this bush thrives only in acidic substrate. It is also recommended to protect it in winter and plant in a location sheltered from cold winter winds.

Planting and care

Preferably plant Oxydendrum arboreum in a sunny site sheltered from cold winter winds. Plant in the spring in a cool, humus-rich, fertile, and acidic soil. Protect it during the winter by covering the base with straw or dry leaves or by using a winter fleece on the entire bush. It is best to do both. Your Andromeda arborea will not require pruning.
