Leaves arrived all dried up. I thought it was dead but no, it seems to be recovering well with the daily Normandy rain since planting.

Description

Syringa patula 'Miss Kim', also known as Syringa pubescens subsp. patula 'Miss Kim', is a small, compact and bushy Lilac with elegant and delicate panicles shaded with pale lilac, with an enchanting fragrance.

This small lilac forms a compact bush of about 1.5 m (4.9 ft) in height and width. Its almost horizontal branches bear deciduous leaves, which are glossy and of a tender green colour. In spring, beautiful panicles of flowers shaded with pale lilac bloom. The flowers are smaller and finer than traditional Lilacs but more abundant and equally fragrant. It is almost impossible to resist the desire to make a beautiful scented bouquet for the house.

Syringa patula 'Miss Kim' is a very easy plant to grow, if cultivated in the sun, in fresh and light soils. It tolerates partial shade and clayey, heavy and rich soils very well.

Its compact habit makes it perfect for small gardens and for those who have had the experience of a common Lilac with exuberant growth. It will suit any garden, regardless of its size, and can also bloom on terraces, as it behaves very well in pots as long as it is watered.

Planting and care

Syringa patula 'Miss Kim' appreciates planting in full sun, in soil that remains fairly moist and well-drained. It tolerates all types of soil. It will grow well in semi-shaded exposure, but flowering will be reduced. Easy to grow, it requires only mulching in the summer in dry climates to maintain some moisture. Water it in the first few years in case of marked drought. You can prune the flowering branches to make beautiful bouquets, or at the end of flowering to promote the appearance of new flowers and avoid exhausting the bush. Avoid severe pruning that limits flowering the following spring, unless your Syringa becomes too large.
