This planting felt creates a physical barrier to isolate the garden soil from the ericaceous soil essential for the success of bushes such as camellias, azaleas, or other rhododendrons. It is available in the form of a 1.50 m (5ft) square, an ideal format for lining the planting hole of a young plant.

The TERRAPLANT non-rotting planting felt has been designed to effectively isolate the garden soil from a substrate with very different characteristics, such as ericaceous soil. It is easily installed, lining the bottom and sides of the planting hole to help create a favourable environment for the cultivation of acid-loving plants and bushes, including camellias, azaleas, and other rhododendrons... Available in a square measuring 1.50 m (5ft) on each side, it is perfec for the creation of an individual planting pit for a plant.

This grey geotextile felt is made of non-woven polyester (thermally bonded polyester fibres) with a density of 100g/m². It is permeable to water but non-rotting and highly resistant, capable of remaining in the soil for many years without damage. Its texture is dense enough to prevent punctures and it prevents the garden soil (which can be chalky) from mixing with the ericaceous soil or the highly acidic organic matter it contains. Isolated from the rest of the soil, the plant's root ball benefits from a favourable environment for its growth as well as the ambient moisture of the flowerbed. The felt also isolates it from the roots of neighbouring plants, which can sometimes be invasive. However, keep in mind that if you continuously water your heathland shrubs with chalky water, it will lose its acidity in the medium term. Finally, avoid using pure ericaceous soil in the garden: it dries out quickly in summer and provides very few nutrients to plants.

Detailed features

Directions for use This felt should be used to line the planting hole of your shrub, which must be wide and deep enough. It should line the entire bottom and wall, and slightly overflow onto the surface of the garden soil. Fill the hole with ericaceous soil and compost. Plant your bush and then water it. You can cover the protruding edge of the felt with flat stones, gravel mulch, slate or pumice... However, keep in mind that if you continuously water your bush with alkaline water, the soil will lose its acidity in the medium and long term. Use rainwater or lightly mineralised spring water if possible. You can also use this felt to limit the spread of bamboo rhizomes which do not run too much, or to contain the wandering roots of certain plants.
