Last year, I tried using plastic film for the strawberries, but due to the extreme heat we had, it was disastrous for the plants. They burned in the sun despite watering. This year, I am considering using organic mulch, which will allow the plants to breathe and better absorb rainwater.

This black mulching film FRESAFILM, specifically designed for strawberry cultivation, ensures better yield and high-quality harvest: it prevents weed growth, retains moisture in the soil, and keeps the fruits clean by isolating them from the ground. Its use also helps reduce the use of chemical products.

This plastic film is made of polyethylene with a thickness of 40 microns, slightly higher than the standard quality. It is installed before planting, on a well-weeded and prepared soil. It is easy to cut with a blade, allowing for openings to be made for planting young strawberry plants. It is important to secure the film to the ground properly, so that the wind cannot get underneath and lift it. Being black, it absorbs the heat from the sun, enabling the soil to warm up faster and the plants to root more quickly. The heat generated by the film also accelerates fruit ripening and promotes a good sweetness and aroma. Protected by mulch, the soil dries out much slower, reducing the need for watering and significantly decreasing water consumption. The impermeable mulching film Fraisafilm prevents the growth of weeds by depriving the naturally present seeds in the soil of light: it saves time while avoiding the use of chemical herbicides. The strawberries will rest on the film instead of the ground, protecting them from soil splashes and reducing their exposure to slugs. For irrigating your strawberry bed, you can perfectly install a drip irrigation system. This material has a lifespan of approximately two years.

Detailed features

Directions for use This mulch film is particularly suitable for strawberry cultivation. It should be fixed to the ground all around its perimeter to prevent the wind from getting underneath. It is installed in the spring, on carefully prepared, weeded, loosened, and enriched soil. Cut the film with a cutter, forming crosses in which you will slide your young strawberry plants. Water the base of your plantings using a hose or install a drip irrigation system. You can also use it to grow melons, pumpkins, courgettes, or other trailing crops.
