Jute fabric is a true ally for gardeners. This plant material comes directly from the rigid and fibrous stems of a bush called white jute, in Latin Corchorus capsularis. It is a plant from the mallow family, related to hibiscus, native to the hot and humid regions of India. This is a raw, untreated fabric made of woven fibres with a mesh density of 300g/m². The tighter the mesh, the more resistant the fabric is. Completely biodegradable and natural, jute fabric can be reused for several years before starting to degrade.

In the garden, it can replace winter covers and frost protection covers made of polypropylene. Thick and airy at the same time, it insulates plants from cold, wind, hail, and snow, while allowing air and water necessary for plant life to pass through. It is very useful as a carrying bag, especially since this bag is reusable countless times, unlike traditional rubbish bags that are often thrown away with their contents. When offered in rolls, jute fabric can be used as an alternative to conventional polypropylene mulch fabrics to protect the soil, reduce weeding operations, and reduce watering due to its ability to retain moisture in the soil. In this use, jute fabric plays its role as a geotextile, particularly useful for retaining soil on large slopes or sloping terrain. Cut into wide strips, it can also be wrapped around large stakes like those used for certain indoor plants such as Monstera deliciosa. Jute-covered stakes also help guide the initial growth of young ivy, climbing hydrangeas, or Virginia creeper, providing an ideal surface for their climbing roots and suckers to attach to. Jute fabric also protects young tree trunks from deer bites.

Finally, jute fabric, with its beautiful desert colour, can be used for decoration on garden tables in the form of a raw tablecloth, to shade a pergola or arbour, or to filter the sun from windows that are overexposed in summer, when made into outdoor curtains. You can change its colour, as there are many natural plant-based dyes available to add a touch of colour to this strong, natural, versatile, and economical material!

Detailed features

Directions for use This jute bag will protect bushes and plants that do not exceed 80 cm to 1m in height, whether in the ground or in a pot. Encase your plant, then tie the base of the bag with a cord down to the trunk, or down to the bottom of the pot whenever possible. Otherwise, consider protecting the pot with another jute bag, bubble wrap, or winter fleece, to protect the roots from the cold. To water your plant if necessary, choose the best time of day, when it is not freezing and the sun has warmed the soil. This bag will also insulate your frost-sensitive jars and pottery.
