The Blackberry (Rubus fruticosus) of the Rosaceae family is a bramble bearing sweet black fruits in summer. They commonly grow in the wild, but cultivated varieties produce more abundant and sweeter fruits, with fewer or no thorns. This fruit is used alone or with other cultivated or wild berries, in pies, jellies, preserves, or sorbets. Blackberries should not be confused with the fruit of the Mulberry tree, which belongs to the Moraceae family. With rapid growth, the young plants require severe pruning as the fruits grow better on young shoots and any invasive risk is contained.
