The apricot tree - Prunus armeniaca - from the Rosaceae family is a fruit tree that prefers sunny, warm and sheltered locations. Its decorative flowering enchants orchards early in spring but may suffer from frost damage, although the apricot tree itself is very cold-resistant. Varieties like 'Polish' or 'Early Saumur' can be planted anywhere. It appreciates well-defined seasons for optimal fruiting: a cold winter, a mild spring and a hot summer. Not demanding the nature of the soil, the apricot tree will grow in light soil, neither too wet nor too dry. The first apricots can be harvested as early as July, depending on the variety and climate.
