The spreading bamboos, like Phyllostachys, are known for their rapid growth. Impressive, they reach up to 8 metres (26 feet) in height for Phyllostachys bissetii, thus offering a very architectural dimension to the garden. Elegant, they often have remarkable, highly graphic canes (like the superb Black bamboo) and beautiful evergreen foliage. Low maintenance, they are very hardy.
