Watermelon – Citrullus lanatus – from the Cucurbitaceae family, is grown in vegetable gardens for its refreshing fruit. Rich in water, this fruit symbolises summer. It makes excellent jams and is used in the making of beautiful exotic fruit salads. It can be served cubed as an appetiser, but watermelon as part of savoury dishes such as in a salad with feta cheese or paired with mint, have yet to prove their point. Cleansing and hydrating, they contains vitamins A, B, C, and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and iron.
