He didn't have the white stripes, here I don't know if you dig the bulb right.

Description

Hippeastrum Exotic Peacock is an amaryllis from the Double Galaxy Group. It is a bulbous plant with large double flowers featuring red and white bicolour petals. Like all amaryllis, its flowering during the greyest months is highly sought after. It will be ideal for brightening up your home.

The 'Exotic Peacock' Double amaryllis is a bulbous plant native to South America, displaying alternating flowers and leaves. The long, glossy dark green foliage is rounded at the ends. From January to May and from September to December, 'Exotic Peacock' will offer you a beautiful bouquet of 4 double flowers with a central white fringed petal bordered by two red fringes. These flowers will bloom on a tall stem ranging from 30 to 50cm (12 to 20in) in height.

It is not very hardy so it is best grown in a pot or container to protect it from frost. A sunny exposure is recommended.

Planting and care

You can plant amaryllis bulbs from October to the end of April. Choose a pot that is not too large (one or two cm larger than the size of the bulb). Place a layer of drainage at the bottom. Mix half potting soil, half garden soil. Only bury the bulb halfway. Place the pot in a warm and bright place. Water sparingly until the stem appears. Then water daily. Your bulbs will bloom 6 to 8 weeks later.

If you choose multiple bulbs, plant them with a two-week interval to enjoy their beauty all winter.

After flowering, cut off the faded flowers and let the leaves continue to grow. Continue to water regularly and give them indoor plant fertiliser every 15 days. This is the time when the bulb rebuilds itself to prepare for next year's flowers. After 4 to 6 months, forget about your potted plants, and let them rest for about 3 months in a sheltered place. You can then remove the faded leaves, repot in fresh soil, and start a new growing cycle.
